Nafy Flatley of Teranga on Being a Small Business Owner – and Her Commitment to Community

By combining traditional recipes from Senegal with unique flavors, Teranga Juice honors the past while providing nourishment for the future.

WHAT LED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

I started Teranga Juice to create generational wealth for my family, jobs for others and to help my community thrive.

WHAT DOES BEING A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER MEAN TO YOU?

To me, a small business owner creates jobs, has financial stability and controls their own time. I work with wonderful people and give all my heart to making healthy food and drinks without sacrificing deliciousness. I’m always trying to figure out how to help support my community’s needs. Since the pandemic, we’ve had some great opportunities to prepare meals for the homeless and for eldercare facilities.

WHAT MAKES YOUR BUSINESS UNIQUE?

Teranga draws inspiration from traditional recipes of my homeland, Senegal and the African Diaspora, and spins up unique twists using locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. We use all organic, non-gmo, gluten free, and allergy-friendly ingredients to create uniquely-flavored juices and snacks without compromising nutrition. Teranga drinks and snacks are true goodness.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING DIFFERENTLY THIS YEAR TO REACH YOUR CUSTOMERS AND GENERATE SALES?

We started a newsletter to update our customers about new products and the different ways they can enjoy them. We’re also offering organic family meal options, hot sauces, and are participating in curated gift boxes.

WHAT’S THE BEST HOLIDAY GIFT YOU EVER RECEIVED?

A Blendtec and Cuisinart mixer which I use for creation and experimentation. It’s amazing!
