The Minnesota Avenue Main Street (MAMS) is an initiative to promote, revitalize, and develop the Minnesota Avenue corridor, one of the largest historic commercial districts located east of the Anacostia River. They offer grant opportunities for Black-owned businesses in Washington, D.C. Wards 7 and 8, 1:1 Business Consultations, Workshops & Events, Business Marketing, and Real Estate Support.

Ascend Capital Accelerator Thrive Cohort. Dedicated to serving entrepreneurs of color through a holistic, multi-week program, our hands-on approach consists of interactive workshops, one-on-one consultations with world class experts, and individualized support. Our goal is to support the growth and long-term success of entrepreneurs of color in the Greater Washington, D.C. region, and surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia.

1-on-1 coaching in areas including financing, business law, marketing, real estate, etc. for all stages of business development. Learn how to write a successful business plan, understanding what bankers look for, determining the best way to manage business operations including your taxes, accounting, employee insurance, payroll and marketing.

VASBDC Cybersecurity Program. Whether you are a retailer or restaurant who is responsible for customer data or a business moving online for the first time the SBDC provides support for small companies to keep your business secure by offering one-on-one counseling, assessments, and webinars to learn how to protect your businesses from cyber threats.

In partnership with Early Education Business Consultants, the Virginia SBDC is offers an 8-week, training program that will provide childcare businesses with the necessary management and business tools to improve the profitability and sustainability of their child care business and the long-term relationships needed to support them as business owners.

VASBDC International Business Development Program (IBD). The Virginia SBDC International Business Development Program works with Virginia based firms to enhance their global success. Their Certified Global Business Professionals provide confidential counseling, training, and customized research to help companies mitigate risks, prioritize markets, identify financing, and grow export sales.

The Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP) assists Virginia-based technology and innovation-driven startups on their path to success. Supporting startups – from ideation, all the way through seeking Series A level of funding and beyond – ICAP services are offered at no cost to participants and all advising is strictly confidential.

The VASBDC offers one-on-one consulting on all aspects of business development, such as Starting a Business, Financing a Business, Maintaining a Business, and Growing a Business.

SCORE Mentoring. SCORE provides free remote mentoring for small business owners. Their Washington DC volunteers are experienced entrepreneurs, corporate managers, and executives with a diverse set of industries and specialties who volunteer their experience and knowledge to help small business professionals start, develop, and grow businesses in Washington DC, Maryland (Prince Georges & Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia.
