Business Incubation Program
Our business incubation program offers underserved entrepreneurs and small business owners a 3-year holistic business education program, involving customized experiential business training and coaching, certification in business planning, access to markets, industry sector incubation, asset-building support and access to credit.

Co-horts for our incubation program are held throughout the year. Accepted participants work with a Client Manager during the program and are expected to share their progress and milestones so we can measure effectiveness of the program for our clients and supporters.

IDA (Individual Development Account) Programs
Background: Individual Development Accounts are an asset building tool that can help targeted aspiring entrepreneurs achieve specific business financial goals. Among our normal IDA eligibility requirements, one is that participants must be at 200% or below the Federal Poverty level.

We have completed our most recent IDA program for Alameda and Contra Costa residents. With the support of
Y & H Soda Foundation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – AFI Program, we were able to provide $52,000 in matching funds to entrepreneurs! We also wish to acknowledge U.S. Bank for their participation partnering with us to establish the bank accounts for our IDA participants.

Support Groups: These groups provide a safe space in which formerly battered women and women who are currently in violent relationships can convene to share their experiences, offer support to each other in their healing processes.
Information & Referrals: Information and referrals, are provided based on individual needs. In addition to helping women apply for crime victims’ compensation.
Individual Counseling: We provide one-on-one support services to women dealing with domestic violence issues.
Advocacy: Nuevo Amanecer’s advocates accompany and advocate on behalf of, and serve as interpreters at various institutions such as criminal courts, police precincts, hospitals and housing centers with the intent of empowering them to access services independently.
Community Educational Presentations: Presentations are usually made to both parents and students at local schools, in community centers, and churches. In addition, Nuevo Amanecer has also developed mini-presentations that are given at local businesses.
Brides’ March against Domestic Violence: The Nuevo Amanecer Program of the DWDC is a member of the New York Latinas Against Domestic Violence, a citywide event that organizes the Annual Brides’ March Against Domestic Violence in memory of Gladys Ricart and other victims of domestic violence every year on September 26.

Eligibility requirements: If you’re a California company that’s been in business for at least 12 months then we’d love to work with you! We also specialize in working with small business owners who’ve had a hard time accessing capital, like female entrepreneurs, immigrant entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs of color, and borrowers that may have been turned down for SBA or traditional bank loans. Our typical clients are small businesses with at least 1 part-time or full-time employee who would like to grow. Through our partners at Pace SBDC, Columbia SBDC, City Tech SBDC, New York SBDC, Lawrence N. INDIVIDUALIZED MENTORING AND COACHING
Through our partners at Bank of America, IBM, Varde Partners, TD Bank, TruFund and JPMorgan Chase, TWT offers one-on-one project-specific support, coaching in a specific topic area, and general mentorship for Black owned businesses. All TWT volunteers go through an extensive orientation and onboarding process to ensure they are familiar with the TWT program and deeply aware of the historical, systemic discrimination that Black owned businesses face.

TWT connects businesses to dedicated support in social media, marketing, and website development. The Facebook Career Connections program’s mission is to create jobs, train jobseekers and support businesses. The program offers businesses in the TWT network a pipeline of career-ready digital talent from diverse backgrounds.

LEGAL SUPPORT
Together We Thrive is developing a relationship with corporate partners to provide legal support to Black owned businesses.

COHORT-BASED PEER LEARNING PROGRAM
Through coalition building, TWT will offer Black owned businesses in NYC the opportunity to connect with other businesses in their industry, and share experiences and knowledge through facilitated group conversations, hence promoting the creation of networks and shared learning.

GRANT AND LOAN SUPPORT
TWT provides businesses within its network with grant and loan preparation, helping businesses identify potential sources of funding and prepare to apply for a grant or loan.

VLA LEGAL FELLOWSHIPS
Legal Fellowships at VLA are available to recent law school graduates and deferred associates who can secure independent fellowship funding. VLA’s Legal Fellows interact daily with clients and gain hands-on experience analyzing, interpreting, and counseling members of New York’s arts community on legal issues pertaining to various areas of law, including intellectual property, contract, and non-profit and for-profit corporate matters.

Legal Fellows are most commonly full-time positions, but we are also able to accommodate part-time candidates available to work at least 20 hours per week at VLA’s office at 1 E. 53rd St. Most Fellowships’ start dates coincide with the Fall academic semester, but some positions may be available on a rolling basis. Note that these are unpaid positions. Only those who have secured (or will secure) independent funding may apply. Please specify the source of your funding in your application.

Legal Fellows duties include:

Reviewing intake files relating to arts-related legal matters, and preparing memoranda that identify key legal and factual issues
Participating in client consultations and administering client case files in preparation for referral to pro bono counsel. Legal fellows admitted to the New York State Bar may have the opportunity to lead consultations.
Assisting in coordinating off-site legal services programming for VLA artists.
Conducting legal research, writing, and case management in support of ongoing intellectual property, contract, corporate, and dispute resolution matters.
Training and supervising VLA law student interns in their daily tasks.
Assisting with VLA’s education and development programming by creating presentation materials, and teaching classes on legal issues that affect artists and arts organizations.
Legal Fellows essential skills:

Demonstrated interest in the arts and public service
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well with a team in a fast-paced environment
Multitasker with attention to detail
Strong legal research and writing skills
Prior course work and experience in intellectual property and/or the arts strongly preferred
