DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)

Resource Name: Access to Quality Child Care Grant. The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has partnered with the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF) to administer the Access to Quality Child Care Grant. The Access to Quality Child Care Grant aims to increase the supply of child care services for infants and toddlers, which may include establishing new or expanding child development facilities serving infants and toddlers.

Their small business resources page provides access to both internal and external resources from funding opportunities, technical assistance, business training, etc.

Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF)

LIIF supports sustainable, community-based systems for financing and developing child care facilities through capital investments and capacity building throughout the United States, with a specific focus in California, San Francisco, Washington, DC, New York City and Atlanta. LIIF provides grant and loan capital for facilities development and improvement. In combination with capital, LIIF delivers specialized business support and development, including training and technical assistance on facilities design, development, financing and operations.

Jessenia and her sister Natalie saw a need for coworking options that provided childcare, and decided to open their business, which they originally started before the pandemic, have since closed, and now reopened and rebranded in 2022. They define their business as a cultural education center redefining work-life balance with a new way to work and play that benefits the entire family. They offer membership-based childcare with co-working benefits, enrichment programming, open play, event space and more.

ATStudy Buddy

Allison has an online exam preparation platform that includes test prep materials for today's Athletic Training students. With over a decade of athletic training and clinical education experience, Allison wanted to design materials to help Athletic Training students pass their BOC exam using an online exam format that simulates the real exam experience. Things are growing quickly for her and Allison wants to make sure that she has the right infrastructure in place to support growth.
